NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I (R1 is lower alkanoyl, phenyl or benzyl; R2 is H, lower alkanoyl or benzyloxycarbonyl; R3 is H or lower alkyl; R4 is H or OH; n is 1W3) or their salts.
EXAMPLE: 6-{D(-)-α- [3-(2-benzyloxybenzoyl)-1-ureido] -α-phenylacetamide}penicillane.
USE: Intermediates for the preparation of antifungal agents. Effective to Gram-positive bacteria and also some kind of clinically important Gram-negative bacteria.
PROCESS: In an example, the desired compounds of formula I are obtained by reacting substituted ureidophenylacetic acids (new materials) of formula II or reactive derivatives thereof an 6-aminopenicillanic acid of formula III (Y is H or protecting group) or reactive derivatives thereof. The compounds of formula II can be prepared from α-aminophenylacetic acids and OH-protected benzoyl isocyanates.
