Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an Al salt used as a flocculant, etc. by regulating the concn. of total Al cpds. in a reaction system to below 1% as Al2O3; precipitating a readily sol. Al hydroxide cpd. by neutralization; and reacting the cpd. with an acid or a water sol. Al salt thereof.
CONSTITUTION: An acidic Al cpd. such as aluminum sulfate or an acid such as sulfuric acid, an alkaline Al cpd. such as alkali aluminate, and Al cpds. of at least one of acidic and alkaline substances such as ammonium hydroxide are charged into reaction system while regulating the concn. of the total Al cpds. in the system to below 1 wt% as Al2O3. The cpds. are neutralized with stirring at 10W40°C and aged for 10 minW1 hr to separate an aluminum hydroxide cpd. readily sol. in acidic substances. This cpd. is then added to an acid such as sulfuric acid or an aq. soln. of an Al salt thereof, e.g. aluminum sulfate and stirred at 10W40°C for 15 minW5 hr to obtain a clear neutral or basic Al salt.
