Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title gypsum with high dry compressive strength and a uniform crystal form in a high yield by adding a habit modifier and a sol. metal salt for accelerating oxidation and growing crystals to a CaSO3 slurry of a specified concn. obtd. by allowing SOx in exhaust gas to be absorbed in a lime slurry, followed by treatment under restricted conditions.
CONSTITUTION: SOx in exhaust gas are allowed to be absorbed in a lime slurry, and the CaSO3 concn. of the slurry is adjusted to below about 10%. To this slurry are added 0.01W1% of a habit modifier such as sodium citrate effective in growth of prismatic crystals and 0.01W1% of a sol. metal salt, esp. NiSO4 or Fe2(SO4)3 for accelerating oxidation and promoting crystal growth. The mixed slurry is then adjusted to pH 3W4, oxidized with air or the like at about 120W150, pref. 120W 130°C and above 2 kg/cm2 while stirring, rapidly filtered at the hot state, and rapidly dried with hot air at above 90, pref. 120W130°C.
