Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide alkali, weather, water and acid resistances and flexibility to glass fiber contg. zirconium oxide by surfacetreating the fiber with an aq. soln. of chloride, sulfate or nitrate of zinc, lead or thin.
CONSTITUTION: Glass fiber contg. 10W25wt% zirconium oxide is surfacetreated with an aq. soln. of chloride, sulfate or nitrate of zinc, lead or tin, or a mixt. thereof by dipping, spraying, coating or other method to form an alkali-proof protective film on the fiber surface. The fiber thus treated is then washed with water and dried at 80W200°C to obtain a surface-treated glass fiber product.
