Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the growth of a frost layer around an air heat exchanger laid outdoors by changing the difference between the set temperature for the start of defrosting and the set temperature for the release thereof separately in the ambient temperature range of 2°CW6°C and others.
CONSTITUTION: When the ambient temperature around an air heat exchanger ranges from 2°C to 6°C, a 4-way valve 5 is switched with a relay 15 so that the difference between the temperature for the start of defrosting and that for the release of defrosting is less than that when the ambient temperature is below 2°C or above 6°C. Thus, in such a temperature range, more frequent defrosting is made than in the other temperature range by bringing the defrosting start temperature closer to the defrosting release temperature. Thus, defrosting is performed at the initial stage of frosting on the evaporator.
