Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce Sendast sintered magnetic alloy having high density and excelling in processability, by forming Fe plated layer on the surface by electroless plating or similar process, before applying powder metallurgy to Sendast base alloy powder.
CONSTITUTION: When melting Fe-Al-Si Sendast base alloy mainly composed of Al; 3 to 8% and Si; 3 to 12%, the amount is reduced by the amount of Fe to be plated. This alloy is finely crushed to about -200 to +325 mesh size, and the surface is activated by etching in mixture solution of mineral acid in a container kept in N2 or Ar atmosphere. This powder is put into an electroless plating solution containing soluble iron salt such as ferric nitrate and iron ammonium oxalate, and reducing agent such as hypophoshite and hydrazine, and is plated with Fe. This Fe plated Fe-Al-Si base alloy fine powder is pressurized and formed, and is then sintered in the atmosphere of inert gas. Thus, high-density magnetic material excelling in processability and magnetic characteristics may be produced.
