Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the discrimination of small precious stones on table surface by utilizing light reflectivity with the perpendicular bundles of optical fiber for light emission and reception faced with each other. CONSTITUTION:A measuring section is made of a protective tube 6 and a mould 7. Optical fiber for light emission 4 and that for light reception 5 are fastened in said mould 7 to accurately face a light emitting device and a light receiving device 9 respectively. The ends of said optical fibers are faced with each other on table surface 2 and cut accurately in respect on table surface 2. The space 3 so illustrated as to have an arc shape can be made conical for example if required. If said space 3 is conical, the light from said optical fiber for light emission 4 can be bent outward due to the refractory index differential between said optical fiber 4 and the air in said space 3 and transmitted to said optical fiber for light reception 5. In the drawings, Numerals 1 and 2 denote a precious stone and table surface. Thereby, small- grain precious stones can be discriminated accurately and easily.
