Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable hard silver plating of smooth surface of high strength and abrasion resistance to be obtained by adding respectively the specific amounts of Sb and naphthalene sulfonic acid-formalin condenstate of the specific structure into a cyanic Ag plating bath.
CONSTITUTION: Sb; 1 to 10g/l is added in the form of alkali salt of antimony tartarate or SbCl3 in a cyanic Ag plating bath and for the purpose of improving solubility, Rochelle salt or alkanol amine is used in combination with this. Also, the naththalene sulfonic acid-condensate shown in formula I; 0.1 to 10g/l is added. In the formula, n is integers of 1 to 10, R, R' are H or hydrocarbon groups, X, X' are H, metals, NH4 + or organic amines. This condensate stabilizes the eutectoid of Sb, increases hardness further and smoothes plating surface. Hence, the hardness (MHV) of Ag plating becomes as high as 120 to 200 and further 200 and higher.
