Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture plated metal excellent in heat resistance, by, in metal- plating the surface of the metal through vacuum metallizing or sputtering, metal -plating the surface of the metal previously coated with unsaturated polyester resin and cured through the irradiation with radiant rays. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a metal is coated with a high molecular cpd. having at least one unsaturated radical in the molecule, e.g., unsaturated polyester resin, unsaturated acrylic resin etc. Then the coated metal is irradiated with active energy of ionizing radiant rays or electromagnetic waves to cure the coating and to form a base coating. The layer of the base coating is heated and then a plated metal layer is formed on the surface thereof by vacuum metallizing or sputtering. This method is very suited for the Al-plating through vacuum metallizing in order to make, e.g., reflectors of automobile head lamps, because soldering of electrical code to the back surface of the reflectors scarcely removes the original brightness of the plated Al.
