Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide magnetic bubble elements with reduced distortions in their operational characteristics by providing a magnetic garnet layer having a grid constant of 12.383±0.010Å and subjecting it to liquid phase eqimerization in a flux solution composed mainly of PbO at an excessively cooled temperature of from 3 to 9°C.
CONSTITUTION: A garnet layer which is a medium for making magnetic bubbles is formed on a non-magnetic garnet (Gd3Ga5O12) base and subjected to liquid phase epimerization in a flux solution consisting of a mixture of mostly PbO and partly B2O3 added as solvent and a mixture of Y2O3, Sm2O3, Fe2O3 and Ga2O3 as solute at an excessively cooled temperature of from 3 to 9°C. As a result, there is formed a delicate and strong magnetic garnet layer having a grid constant of 12.383±0.010Å, which value is approximate to that of the underlying garnet layer and in no way capable of giving stress to this underlying layer, and also having a saturated magnetic flux density exceeding 1,000 gauss. The magnetic garnet layer works effectively as a stress buffer layer and also as suppressing any unusual occurrence of bubbles. As such, the bubble elements produced have quite stable properties with reduced distortions in their operational characteristics and widened operational margins.
