Abstract
PURPOSE:To give the specified unidirectivity in the transmission direction of light by cutting the end face of at least one optical fiber by giving an inclination thereto with respect to the central axis of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The end of the left optical fiber L is cut perpendicular and a non- reflecting film 5 is coated on its surface. The right optical fiber R is cut at its end face at the specified angle theta, this angle theta having been set at the value at which the whole or part of the light L2 advancing from the right to the left in the optical fiber R totally reflects at the end face. Here, the light L1 advancing from the left in the optical fiber L is transmitted to the right as its component entering the incident stereoscopic angle of the right optical fiber enters the right optical fiber R. On the other hand, the whole or part of the light advancing leftward in the right optical fiber is totally reflected and is therefore not transmitted to the left optical fiber. In this way, the specified unidirectivity may be given to the transmission direction of light.
