Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the light stationary attenuator having no effect of reflection on metal film by installing two optical fibers parallel, fixing them by epoxy resin and cutting the same diagonally then forming a metal film on one cut face and bonding the respective cut faces. CONSTITUTION:Two optical fibers 1, 2 are installed parallel and are fixed by means of epoxy resin 4. If these are cut diagonally with respect to the optical fibers 1, 2 like a cut face 5, then the end faces of the optical fibers 1, 2 may be readily cut at the same angle. After the polishing, a metal film is formed on the end face of one optical fiber and the both end faces are bonded. When, with the light stationary attenuator made in this way, light is entered from the optical fiber 1 into the optical fiber 2, the light reflected by the metal film 3 is prevented from entering the optical fiber 1 again and propagating in the optical fiber 1. Hence, by changing the film thickness of the metal film 3 suitably, the specified attenuation amount may be obtained without the effect of reflection on the metal film 3.
