Abstract

PURPOSE: To highly accurately measure the time from sunrise to sunset by using a rotating reflecting mirror and a photoelectric element thereby to effect strict correspondence between the threshold value of a solar meter and the quantity of radiation of direct arrival.
CONSTITUTION: A main body is arranged to have its main axis in parallel with the axis of the earth. When a reflecting mirror 4 is turned, the photocurrent is generated in a photoelectric element 9 in accordance with the intensity of the incident light coming from the sky. The component scattered in the sky and the directly incident light are partially removed from the photocurrent obtained by the element 9. The number of pulses which are generated by the directly incident solar light exceeding the threshold value is measured. The number of the pulses counted during the observation is multiplied with the rotating period of the mirror 4 so that the time from sunrise to sunset during the observation can be obtained. Moreover, the reflecting mirror 4 exhibits the characteristics substantially independent of the position of the sun so that the influences from the light scattered in the sky can be reduced. As a result, the relationship between the threshold value of the solar meter and the quantity of radiation of direct arrival can be made to strictly correspond so that the accuracy can be enhanced.
