PURPOSE:To obtain an organic solvent battery with safety concerning pollution and with a good characteristic by the use of manganese dioxide heat-treated at high temperature for the anode. CONSTITUTION:gamma-Type or beta-type manganese dioxide is heat-treated in the electric furnace at 600 to 900 deg.C. The atmosphere can be any of the air, vacuum and inert nitrogen gas. The heat-treated manganese dioxide, acetylene balck and polyethylene tetrafluoride as a binder are mixed to form a material for the anode, lithium and proplyene carbonate are dissolved in lithium perchlorate to make an organic electrolyte for the cathode material. In this way, a 1.5 volt organic solvent battery with a good performance can be obtained.
