Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform firm and low loss fixing without movement or offcentering of core by exposing the core and fixing the same by using the V-groove of a fixing block made of rigid material. CONSTITUTION:A fixing block 9 having a V-groove 8 and a flat plate form pressing plate 10 are formed of rigid material such as glass or the like and the surfaces thereof are made dust- and scracth-free. On the other hand, a plastic clad type optical fiber 1 is removed of the nylon covering 2 and plastic clad 3 of the part to be fixed to expose its core 4 and the surface thereof is made dust- and scratch- free. The core 4 is then placed in the V-groove 8 of the fixing block 9 and the pressing plate 10 is fixed by means of screws 11, after which a curable resin 12 of a refractive index lower than that of the core 4 is attached to the exposed portion of the core 4. This provides line contact at 3 positions to the fixing part, thereby enabling large losses owing to the contact to be prevented.
