Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove a little oxygen contained as an impurity in chlorine gas in an industrially advantageous manner with high removing rate by contacting the chlorine gas to a liquid perfluorinated org. cpd. with high oxygen dissolving power.
CONSTITUTION: Chlorine gas 3 contg. a little oxygen as an impurity formed by electrolysis of NaCl is introduced into absorption tower 1, where it is contacted to liquid perfluorinated org. cpd. 4 such as perfluoromethylcyclohexane, perfluoro- n-heptane or perfluorobutyltetrahydrofuran. Chlorine gas 5 of reduced oxygen content is exhausted from tower 1, and perfluorinated org. cpd. 6 contg. oxygen absorbed is introduced into stripper 2 to purge the oxygen as purge gas 7 and to recycle cpd. 4 to tower 1. By allowing chlorine to be absorbed in the perfluorinated org. cpd. beforehand, absorption of chlorine in the cpd. in tower 1 is aboided to prevent the yield from lowering.
