Abstract

PURPOSE: To save pickling of hot rolled steel plates and save manpower of steel plate production by coating the composition composed primarily of organic polar compounds prior to supplying of emulsion rolling oil.
CONSTITUTION: The composition composed primarily of organic polar compound is coated on the surfaces of hot-rolled steel plates prior to cold rolling or under cold rolling. Next, when rolling is done by using conventional emulsion rolling oil, rolling lubricity improves considerably and yet roll friction and roll flaws are reduced. Further, supplying the organic polar compounds in the abovementioned manner makes possible similar rolling even by using water alone or lubricants dissolving or dispersing in water. The reasons for the improvement in lubricity through the application of the organic polar compounds lie in the synergistic effects such as easier adsorption of even the stable emulsion on the surfaces where the polar compounds exist, increased pickup of rolling oil, and better lubricity of the polar compounds.
