Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable positioning to be performed at high speeds without putting any marks to the work by so moving and controlling the work by using a correlating optical system that the correlation distribution value in the corrections of a reference pattern and the pattern to be positioned becomes maximum.
CONSTITUTION: The work 5 is placed on a transparent stage 4 and laser light is radiated from a He-Ne laser light source 1 thereto to radiate the light image of the work 5 on a correlating filter 10 by way of a half mirror 6a, mirror 8 and lens 9. The reproduced light image of this correlating filter 10 passes through a reverse Fourier transformation lens 13 and is formed on a two-dimensional image sensor 14, the output whereof is then applied to a processing unit 16, whereby a filter rotating mechanism 12 is so controlled that the amplitude distribution on the sensor 14 becomes maximum. The rotating angle of this correlating filter 10 is stored and a stage 17 is controlled by the processing unit 16 according to the control quantity thereof, whereby the work 5 is positioned to the specified position.
