Abstract

PURPOSE: To make nitrogen oxides harmless by effective reduction for a long period of time without causing any secondary pollution by adding a specific ratio of ammonia to nitrogen oxides present in a waste gas in the presence of a manganese oxide-silica-alumina catalyst with a specific composition.
CONSTITUTION: In the denitrification of a waste gas containing nitrogen oxides by an ammonia reduction method, 0.5W2mol ammonia is added to the waste gas on the basis of 1mol nitrogen oxide and then the waste gas is brought into contact with a manganese oxide-silica-alumina catalyst of an SiO2/(SiO2+Al2O)3 ratio of 0.95W0.5, containing 5W30wt% manganese oxide, at 500W700°C. Thus, the nitrogen oxides present in the waste gas can be removed effectively for a long period of time without causing any secondary pollution because of the proper amount of ammonia to be added.
