Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the orientation defect of the liquid crystal display device by flattening the surface of the electrodes provided on the respective opposing substrates forming the liquid crystal panel by resin films and diagonally evaporating liquid crystal molecules on these film surfaces.
CONSTITUTION: Unevenness is produced even in the surfaces of the liquid crystal driving electrodes 21... on the semiconductor substrates 27 forming the liquid crystal panel by providing polysilicon layers 23... according to the surface unevenness of said substrates 27. When transparent polyimide resin 22 is coated to a thickness of 1W2μ on the surfaces of these electrodes 21..., the differences in the surface unevenness become 1μ or less and the ratio l/h between the distance l between arbitrary 2 points on the panel and height h becomes 15 or more, thus the surfaces of the resin 22 becomes flat. If liquid crystal molecules are evaporated on these flat surfaces to form diagonal vapor deposition films, orientation defects are eliminated and the liquid crystal molecules are oriented stably, whereby the display of high quality free from any degradation in contrast may be obtained.
