Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate dehydration of sludge and promote drying thereof by adding a fluoride and CaCO3 to the sludge followed by electrolysis.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of Al anode plates 1 and Cu cathode plates 2 are alternately arranged in electrolytic cell 6. Sludge is allowed to flow into cell 6 from inlet 7, and after adding a fluoride such as CaF2 the sludge is passed between plates 1, 2 being supplied with an electric current. HF is formed by electrolysis in the vicinity of each anode 1, and by the dehydrating action of HF bound water in the sludge is deprived to form a fibrous substance. CaCO3 which becomes crystals forming dipoles to the sludge of Na2CO3 anc CaCl2 which react with each other to form CaCO3 are then added to cell 6 to continue the electrolysis. the polarity of the crystalline portion of the fibrous substance in the sludge and the polarity of the CaCO3 compensate each other, forming CaCO3 crystals, so the sludge is made slightly water soluble. the treated sludge is taken out of outlet 8 and put in drying promoting vessel 9, where drying of the sludge is promoted by adding CaO, CaO.SiO2 or the like which absorbs a substance such as methanol constituting the wetness of org. or inorg. structure in the sludge or wetness constituting water as hydrating water.
