Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the vertical resolution of a single-plate color solid-state pickup unit using mosaic color filters, by using three primary color signals of narrow bands for vertical processing. CONSTITUTION:A signal, corresponding to a picture element sensitive to green light, is extracted from the output signal of solid-state pickup element 11 combined with mosaic color filters and then supplied to sample holding circuit 17 to separate a green signal of a narrow band. Similarly, sample holding circuits 21 and 24 separate red and blue signals of narrow bands. Then, respective color signals are applied to process amplifiers 20, 23 and 26 by way of LPFs 18, 22 and 25. Here, the vertical resolution depends upon low-frequency components of green, red and blue. Therefore, input signals of sample holding circuits 17, 21 and 24 are only the output signal of pickup element 11, and consequently the vertical resolution can be maximized fully as many as the number of vertical picture elements, which results in the great improvement of the vertical resolution.
