Abstract

PURPOSE: To solidify a powdery waste material at low cost in an energy saving manner as well as to prevent a harmful substance from being eluted by a method wherein a molded material of a powdery waste material is treated for a predetermined time within an autoclave and, at a time when cooled to 100°C or less, taken out as a solid material.
CONSTITUTION: A powdery waste material containing heavy metals is added with a solidification promoting agent or a reducing agent according to necessity and blended in the presence of a calcium component, thereafter molded. This molded material is subjected to steam autoclave treatment for a predetermined time within an autoclave and, after said molded material is cooled and the temp. within the autoclave is reached to 100°C or less, the obtained solid material is taken out into air and treated. As cooling means for cooling the autoclave temp. to 100°C or less, natural cooling, air cooling or water cooling is used. As an added calcium component, slaked lime, calcium carbonate, quick lime or the like can be used, but slaked lime is most pref.
