Abstract

PURPOSE: To assuredly prevent harmful material such as heavy metals from being dissolved out by a method wherein hydrolyzable metal salts in powdered waste material are hydrolyzed and the waste material is solidified in the presence of a calcium component.
CONSTITUTION: Powdered waste material is reacted in a pH range in which hydrolyzable metal salts in the waste are transformed into hydrolyzed products. The waste is then dehydrated and solidified in the presence of a calcium component with addition, as required, of a solidification accelerator. There is no problem, if a sufficient amount of the calcium component is present. If insufficient, it is better to add further calcium component, and the amount exceeding 10wt% based on quick lime gives a further effective result. The calcium component to be added may be in the form of calcium-contg. incineration residue or water-treatment sludge. By treating solidified formed product in steam autoclave, its strength is increased, and dissolving out of harmful material such as heavy metals is assuredly prevented.
