Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled composition, useful as a synthetic rubber, a raw material for a caulk, etc., and improved in water resistance etc., which is composed of a polytetramethylene ether glycol, a hydrocarbon polymer having a saturated main chain, containing a hydroxy group, and a curing agent.
CONSTITUTION: Titled composition is obtained by mixing (a) 100pts.wt. of a polytetramethylene ether glycol obtained by the ring-scission polymerization of tetrahydrofuran by use of a catalyst such as boron trifluoride-ethyl ether complex, or of a strong acid such as chlorosulfonic acid, (b) 5W200pts.wt., preferably 20W 100pts.wt. of a hydrocarbon polymer of number-average MW 400W48,000, preferably 1,000W10,000, having a saturated or mostly saturated main chain, containing at least one hydroxy group, and (c) a curing agent such as polyisocyanate, in such amounts that the equivalent ratio of the isocyanate group in the polyisocyanate to the total hydroxy group in (a) and (b) components, is about 0.8W1.2.
