Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the selective separating property and water permeability of a semipermeable membrane and make it possible to desalt sea water in one stage by forming a coating film of a reaction product of inositol, furfuryl alcohol, sulfuric acid or the like onto a porous supporting membrane made of polyester. CONSTITUTION:A composite semipermeable membrane is obtained by coating an aqueous solution containing inositol, furfuryl alcohol and sulfuric acid onto a porous polysulfone support and heat treating said support subsequently. This semipermeable composite membrane has excellent separating property against inorg. or org. substances and especially suitable for desalting sea water in one stage.
