Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a composite semipermeable membrane having excellent water permeability and excellent selective permeability by using as a holder a composite porous support membrane obtained by providing a thin film of a high molecular compound on a porous holder. CONSTITUTION:A composite porous support membrane is prepared by providing a water-soluble high molecular thin film having a heat-cross-linkability and a molecular weight of 1,000-200,000, e.g., of polyethyleneimine, etc., as well as having a water permeable small pores, on the surface of a porous holder, e.g., ultrafiltering membrane or microporous filtering membrane. Then, a polymerizable low-molecular material having a molecular weight of 50-500 and capable of forming a high-molecular compound at a temperature above room temperature in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g., furfuryl alcohol, etc., is coated on said thin film and polymerized to form a dense layer.
