Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a composite membrane having an excellent selectivity for separation and a high water permeability by a method wherein an ultra thin film, obtained by cross-linking polymerization of a specified polyether amine and an amino compound, and a porous material obtained by making a polyether amine water-insoluble are supported on a porous substrate.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of epichlorohydrin in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) is added to a DMF solution of ethylenediamine, and the mixture is stirred to obtain a water-soluble ethylenediamine-modified polyether amine. An aqueous solution containing the polyether amine, piperazine and NH4(OH)2 is coated uniformly on a substrate made of a polysulfone, and the substrate is immersed in an n-hexane solution of isophthaloyl chloride. The substrate is taken out from the solution of isophthaloyl chloride and, after n-hexane adhered to the substrate is evaporated off, the substrate is heat-treated.
