Abstract
PURPOSE: To vary the angle of a turning shaft, by use of a plurality of drum-shaped gears which are respectively formed with lands and grooves on their drum-like spherical surfaces cut away at their opposite pole portions, and shifting the mesh point of these drum-shaped gears by tilting one of the drum-shaped gears along the surface of the other that is fixed tightly in place while keeping them in mesh with each other.
CONSTITUTION: On the surface of two spherical member 1, 1' which are both cut away at their opposite pole portions, an involute gear is machined by forming lands 2 and grooves 3 so as to obtain drum-shaped gears 1, 1'. One of these drum-shaped gears is used as a drive gear 1 and drive shafts 5, 6 are fixed to the same, whereas the other drum-shaped gear is used as driven gear 1'. With such an arrangement, angle of driven shafts 5', 6' to drive shafts 5, 6 can be varied by shifting the mesh point of gears 1, 1' in the manner that they are meshed at points located at an equal distance from their polar points. Thus, angle of a turning shaft can be changed by use of spherical gears cut away at their pole portions and by tilting one of these gears along the surface of the other which is fixed tightly in place.
