Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize an aq. soln. of permanganate by adding one or more kinds of cpds. selected from phosphoric acids, condensed phosphoric acids and slats thereof to the soln. to control selfdecomposition of the soln.
CONSTITUTION: Permanganate has various industrial uses in production of various org. chemicals and as a bleaching agent, a disinfectant, an iron removing agent, etc., an aq. soln. thereof, however, is unstable and is easy to decompose owing to manganese dioxide contained from the first. In order to control the decomposition to a neutral or acidic aq. soln. of permanganate contg. manganese dioxide are added one or more kinds of cpds. selected from orthophosphoric acid, pyrophosphoric acid, tripolyphosphoric acid, metaphosphoric acid, alkali salts therof and ammonium salts therof so that the atomic ratio of P/Mn becomes 0.1W5 to the amt. of manganese dioxide contained in the soln. and/or manganese dioxide to be formed by reaction.
