Abstract

Compsns. for stabilising peracetic acid consists of or contain a mixt. of (a) a pyridinecarboxylic acid and/or an alkali metal and/or NH4 salt thereof, and (b) Na hexametaphosphate (I) the wt. ratio of (a) to (b) being 0.7-1.5:1. The mixts. have a better stabilising effect than known stabilisers or either component alone. Component (a) is pref. dipicolinic acid (II) quinolinic acid, 2,4-lutidinic acid, isocinchomeronic acid, cinchomeronic acid, dinicotinic acid, (III) or an alkali metal or NH4 salt thereof. The mixts. are pref. added to a soln. of the peracetic acid in H2O, HOAc, EtOAc and/or EtOH (or a reaction mixt. e.g. an epoxidation reaction mixt. contg. peracetic acid) in an amt. of 10-1000 (esp. 50-300) ppm.
