Abstract

H2O2-contg. baths are stabilised with a conc., liq., stable compsn. contg. Na silicate, (I), and an Mg complex, (II), pref. formed from phosphonic acid derivs., esp. from salts of amino-(lower-alkane)-polyphosphonic acids, (III), and/or salts of hydroxyalkane-phosphonic acids. The baths are pref. used for bleaching fibres. Compsn. clarity and stability exceed that achieved with other complexes, e.g. Mg complexes of aminopolycarboxylic acids. Bleaching activity on treated materials is high, without deposition or pptn. of insoluble silicates. In an example, stabilising compsn. was prepd. by heating a mixt. of a hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid soln. water and MgO, and then adding Na silicate.
