Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove org. matter, esp. uncolored org. matter contained in a wet process phosphoric acid soln. in an industrially advantageous manner by adding a specific amt. of KMnO4 and HNO3 to the soln. and carrying out heat treatment to exhibit the synergistic effect of the chemicals.
CONSTITUTION: To a wet process phosphoric acid soln. contg. org. matter are added more than 0.05, pref. 0.2W3% of KMnO4 on the basis of H3PO4 and more than 0.5, pref. 2W7% of HNO3. This soln. is then heat treated at above 70, pref. 70W130, esp. about 100°C. The resulting phosphoric acid soln. is highly heat stable and is not colored again even if concentrated by heating at high temp. By applying this method in combination with a known purification method using org. solvent extraction, high purity phosphoric acid for industrial, pharmaceutical and food additive uses is obtd. contg. little metal ions, etc. as well as no org. matter.
