Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently remove tetravalent Ce contained in an aq. soln. by holding the soln. in a specified pH range; adding polyacrylamide to the soln.; and separating solid matter formed.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrochloric acid or the like is added to an aq. soln. contg. tetravalent Ce and cpds. of Y, etc. to hold the soln. at pH 2W6. About 0.1W5ppm polyacrylamide is added to the soln. of pH 2W6 and stirred to prcipitate tetravalent Ce-contg. solid matter, which is then separated by filtration or other operation. This treatment is carried out at about ordinary temp. for 1min or more, pref. 5W 30min. By this method tetravalent Ce can be removed simply and efficiently without losing metals other than Ce.
