Abstract
PURPOSE:To make measurement highly accurate by providig a branch pipe on the way of the channel for sampling sludge liquid into the sedimented sludge volume measuring pipe and mounting an activated sludge suspended matter concentration measuring part to this branch pipe. CONSTITUTION:A branch pipe 41 is mounted on the way of a channel 40 which samples sludge liquid and the device is constituted by communicating an activated sludge suspended matter MLSS concentration measuring part with this. At the sampling of sludge into a sedimented sludge volume SV measuring pipe 5, the piston 50 of the MLSS measuring part is drawn out to sample the sludge liquid into an inside barrel 47 and the MLSS concentration is measured by way of an MLSS measuring circuit 16. On the other hand, the sludge liquid is precipitated in the SV measuring pipe 5 and the SV value is measured in an SV measuring circuit 28. This MLSS value and SV value are put into an arithmetic circuit 30, by which the sludge volume index is obtained. Since the MLSS concentration may be measured in this way without waiting for the end of the sludge liquid sampling into the SV measuring pipe, the measurement may be done while the sludge suspended matter is in an evenly dispersed state, hence its accuracy may be enhanced.
