Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent stagnation and turbulence of molten metal surface, give smooth horizontal rotating flow to the freezing interface and perform continuous casting without any surface flow by forming the inside circumference of the mold into outward convex corner-out shape. CONSTITUTION:Linear motors 3, 3' are installed respectively along both long sides 2, 2' of a slab mold 1. These are so arranged that the thrusts thereof are given in mutually different directions 4, 4', whereby continuous electromagnetic flow 5 is given to the freezing boundary. At this time, the short piece shape of the mold 1 is formed by using, short pieces 6, 6' of, for example, outward convex arc form, whereby the corner cutting of the mold is done. Hence, the freezing interface molten steel flow from the long sides 2, 2' to the short pieces 6, 6' is smoothly guided and even if the velocity of flow is low, no stagnation occurs and even if it is fast, no turbulence occurs in the molten metal surface, thus the stable, continuous and smooth flow is given to the freezing interface in the mold.
