Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the continuous casting of undeoxidized steel stably and reduce the formation of surface flaws by making the distance between the long sides of the mold nozzle more than the effective thickness of electromagnetic flow. CONSTITUTION:Linear motors 3 for giving electromagnetic flows respectively are installed along both long sides 2 of a slab mold 1. These are so arranged that the thrust thereof are given in mutually different directions 4, 4', whereby continuous electromagnetic flow 5 is given to the freezing interface. At this time, the spacing 7 between the mold long sides 2 and molten metal pouring immersion nozzle 6 is assured at above the effective thickness of the electromagnetic flow. Thereby, the smoothness of the electromagnetic flow within a velocity-of-flow range is insured and the electromagnetic flow which does not disturb the powder on the molten metal surface is stably obtained. Hence, the continuous casting of undeoxidized steel becomes stably possible.
