Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the alkali resistance of glass fiber and the adhesion thereof to cement by forming a fluororubber-base covering layer on the surface of the fiber.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of glass fiber is covered with a fluororubber-base covering layer by means of an applicator, a sprayer or the like. The resulting glass fiber can be prevented from deteriorating even in cement since fluororubber with superior alkali resistance is used. Fluororubber has elasticity unlike ordinary fluororesin, so the covering layer is slightly cracked owing to bending or tension applied to the fiber, and deterioration of the fiber is prevented over a long term. Hydrated cement matrix particles moderately bite into the surface fluororubber layer, resulting in high drawing resistance and high strength.
