Abstract
PURPOSE:To precisely machine a compound ellipse at the periphery of a large piston for a marine engine or the like. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic profiling device which provides a frame 60 with a mean radius ro is fixed on the frame. Two eccentric shafts 66, 67 provide respectively compound ellipse components in accordance with eccentric amounts e1, e2. A cutting tool holder 65 is slidably inserted into the frame 60 and rotatably coupled with a link 63 by means of a pin 68. The link 63 is coupled with a crank 64 by means of a pin 64', a link 61 and a link 62 are coupled by means of a pin 70, and the other end of the link 61 is rotatably coupled with the frame 60. The lengths of said links are represented by the symbols shown in the figure. The eccentric shafts 66, 67 are designed so as to rotate the former at an rpm twice that of the latter. The rotations cause the cranks 64, 74 to produce a high degree of ellipse component and an ellipse component, whereby causing a sliding motion of the cutting tool holder 65 and allowing a cutting tool P to form a compound ellipse.
