Abstract

PURPOSE: The air inlet is adequately arranged so that the air can be introduced from near the liquid surface of the culture medium, thus saving the power for the air supply and permitting reasonable air supply.
CONSTITUTION: The cluture medium is charged from inlet 12 into the tank to the level near the upper limit of air-passing window 7 and air or an oxygen-enriched gas is blown from sparger 3. Then, impeller 4 is made to rotate and the air bubbles are sent underward so that the culture medium and bubbles are thoroughly mixed. The bubbles and culture medium pass through impeller 4 and rise between the inside wall of the tank and draft tube 2. And the liquid level ascend by blowing air into the medium to reach separation ring 11 where only the culture medium flows from the depression parts of wave shape to draft tube 2 and recontacts with fresh air. The convection of the culture medium is efficiently made so that the power consumption by air blowing is reduced to tens of % compared to conventional aerobic submerge method.
