Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect an unusual turning speed of a motor for security of a liquid chromatograph by comparing a frequency of a pulse signal output from a photoelectric detector held close to a rotation shaft of a motor, with a frequency of a fixed added signal from a clock circuit.
CONSTITUTION: A cam 9 and a disc chopper 12 with nothces in the rim are attached to a rotation shaft 11 of a motor 10. A photoelectric detector 13 is located where it can sense light allowed to pass through one notch 15 by the chopper 12 turning. The photoelectric detector 13 consists of a semiconductor diode and semiconductor photoelectric sensor which are opposed at a distance. Only when one notch 15 of the chopper 12 turns to a point between the clearance, the photoelectric detector 13 senses light to feed a pulse signal to a controller 14. Comparing a frequency of the pulse signal with a reference, the controller 14 controls the motor 10 to run at a constant speed. In case of an unusual speed of the motor, a power source is cut off for security of the liquid chromatograph.
