Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable easy, quick and accurate evaluation of the fatigue and the rupture by properly processing the detected accoustic emission (AE) waves to be generated by the fatigue and rupture when the thermal cycle is applied on the soldered joints.
CONSTITUTION: The thermal cycle is applied on the sample 3 on which the substrate 3 is soldered with the lead wire 4 fixed on the chamber 2 of the thermal tester 1 through a heater 7 to be controlled with the temperature controller 9. The joint of the wire generates the AE waves corresponding to the fatigue and the rupture. The waves are detected with an AE sensor 12 via the wave guide 11 and converted into the signal corresponding to the AE waves to the indicated on the graphic display 19 with the memory circuit 16 and the Fourier analyzer 17 by way of the BFP14, recorded on the XY recorder through the waveheight distribution analyzing circuit 18, the peak hole circuit 22, the effective voltmeter 23, the counting circuit 24 and the like, or displayed in the waveform with the oscilloscope. Thus, the evalution of the fatigue and rupture can be done easily, quickly and accurately without microscopic observation of the broken surface.
