Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the size of a material at a high accuracy without deforming the same, by using a detecting unit consisting of a detecting roller cotacting a side surface of the material and a detecting element for detecting variations in the width of the material as the material is fed with the detecting unit maintained in a suspended state.
CONSTITUTION: A frame 8 is set on leaf springs 6 which are fastened to a fixed block 1 with a gap 4 left therein. Frames 9, 10 are attached to both sides of the frame 8. A shaft of a reference roller 15 is fixed to the frame 9. A shaft of a detecting roller 16 is fixed to a projected member 14 attached to an upper portion of a leaf spring 11 which is set on the frame 8. A detecting needle 19 of a detecting means 18 lightly contacts the leaf spring 11 via compression springs 17. A material M is fed between the rollers 15, 16 via a guide roller a shaft of which is fixed to the frame 9, with a detecting unit 7 maintained in a suspended state. The width of the material M is thus measured at a high accuracy without deforming the same.
