Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to judge the conditions of a converter exactly, by producing a sound, having a frequency zone different from that of the sound of blowing now in operation and that of environmental noise, at a prescribed position in the furnace, and by detecting the change in the sound strength caused by the propagation of the sound in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:An AC signal, which is produced by a sine wave generator 40 of a top-blown converter and which has constant amplitude and frequency of a frequency zone different from that of blowing sound and from that of the environmental noise, is amplified by an amplifier 42. Then the voice coil 44a of a speaker 44 is energized, and the AC signal is converted to a sound signal by a diaphragm 44c. The sound signal is sent to a prescribed position above very near the molten steel surface by a transmission tube 46 of the sound wave. The transmitted sound is collected through slag 12, a wave guide 20 by a microphone 22, then after passing through a one-third octave analyzer 26, it is converted to DC by a AC-DC change-over switch 28. The DC is recorded by a recorder 30, whereby the change in the strength of sound wave during blowing is detected.
