Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily know furnace conditions from the change in sound wave intensity by charging the sounds of a frequency differing in frequency band from that of the blowing sound during blowing in a converter or environmental noise while blowing an inert gas through the tuyere provided to the side wall of the converter. CONSTITUTION:A hole 32 in a horizontal direction is formed to the side wall of a converter 18 in the prescribed position above the interface between a steel bath 10 and slag 12, and a tuyere 34 is inserted therethrough, thence an inert gas is blown through a blow port 36 in a manner as to prevent the entry of slag. A vessel 38 is provided to the end part of the tuyere 34, and a small-sized speaker 44 is built therein and is connected to a high-frequency current generator 40 via an amplifier 42. The AC current signal of frequencies differing in frequency band and a constant amplitude is sent from this generator 40 into the furnace. The sounds thereof are picked up in a microphone 22 through a waveguide 20, and are passed through a band-pass filter 26A or 26B which allows the passage of the frequency band corresponding to the oscillated frequencies. These are converted to DC currents by an AC-DC converter 28, and the change of sound intensity with time during blowing is recorded with a recorder 30, whereby the furnace conditions are surely detected.
