Abstract

PURPOSE: To form the colored layer having different color modes by a method wherein Al substrate is pretreated, patterned, treated with anodizing is subject to electrolytic treatment in aqueous acid solution, and then undergoes an electrolytic coloring treatment in aqueous metal salt solution.
CONSTITUTION: The Al (alloy) substrate is pretreated with degreasing, etching, smut removal, etc. whereby in any of the above processes, the substrate is patterned by use of AC electolysis, local current passing, thermal treatment, masking, etc. Then, the substrate is conventionally anodized thereby forming porous oxide layer, then is electrolytically treated in aqueous acid solution to form structural differences of fine pores between the patterned and other areas. The so formed fine pore structural differences bring out differences in quantity of adsorption of metal salts precipitated in the following process of electrolytic coloring. As a result, the patterned and other areas appear in completely different color, giving multiple variations in the surface appearance.
