Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a detection miss perfectly while reducing remarkably time labor in comparison with that of a conventional method, by finely inspecting the internal surface of a tank bottom plate on the basis of a temperature distribution state found by infrared photography.
CONSTITUTION: When the reverse surface of the bottom plate of a tank is corroded, its causes are considered as contact the ground surface in many cases or higher thermal conductivity of the corroded part than any other part due to the sticking of earth and sand even in inside deformation space. Now, corroded point B of bottom plate P meets earth surface G, earth and sand H sticks at corroded point E in space D and no corrosion occurs at A. When the tank is emptied, the inside temperature is normally higher than the earth surface temperature, so that the bottom-plate temperature will bear relation A, B<E<F according to a decrease in thermal conductivity. Through infrared photography, an image of dots depending upon the abovementioned temperature difference can be obtained. At five points (a)W(e), low temperature parts are recognized and they are finely inspected by ultrasonic-inspecting so as to find the corroded parts.
