Abstract

PURPOSE:To sufficiently avoid liquid leakage from the junction face between a positive electrode can and a gasket of a battery, by sealing a liquid packing in a gap formed by the difference in curvature between the inner surface of the base portion of the rising wall of said positive electrode can and the gasket surface. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode can 1 and a negative electrode terminal plate 2 are fit together via an annular gasket which is in contact with the inner bottom surface 5 of said positive electrode can 1 and the inner peripheral surface 6 of the same. There is formed a gap between the inner surface 7 of a base portion of the rising wall of said positive electrode can 1 and a gasket surface 8 due to the difference in curvature between said inner surface 7 and gasket surface 8. The gap is filled up with a liquid packing 4 consisting of asphalt pitch, a polyamide of a fatty acid, wax, etc. by a suitable method, for example, by sticking a predetermined amount of said liquid packing on the inner surface 7 of the base portion of the rising wall of the positive electrode can 1 prior to starting the assembly work of said battery. By such an arrangement, it is possible to improve the anti-liquid leakage properties at the junction face of a positive electrode can and gasket.
