Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable use of thin plates for an oil-filled tank for an electric apparatus by bending both side walls of a box-like reinforcing member forming a gas chamber at the outer wall of an elliptical cross sectional tank when welding the reinforcing member and connecting the lower ends of the side walls of the reinforcing member to the position where the circumferential moment of the tank is minimum. CONSTITUTION:When welding a box-like reinforcing member forming a gas chamber 5 at the side plates 1 of an elliptical cross sectional tank, both the side walls of the reinforcing member 11 are bent, and inclined while expanding the member 11 toward the long side portions 1a of the side plates 1. In connecting both the side walls 11 to the side plates 1, the lower ends of the side walls of the reinforcing member 11 are fixedly welded to the vicinity of the connecting portion of the long side portions 1a of the side plates 1 to the semicircular portions 1b, that is, to the semicircular portions 1b where the circumferential moment of the side plates 1 is at a minimum. The inclining angle of the side walls 1 is set at an angle theta at the tangential line of the portion 1b. In this manner, the stress of the connecting portion when the tank is evacuated to a vacuum become remarkably low, so that the thickness of the side plates may be thin enough.
