Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently manufacture chopped glass fiber of high quality by feeding a glass fiber bundle under specified conditions in a method of chopping the bundle between each knife edge attached to a rotor and a press roller while winding the bundle round the rotor.
CONSTITUTION: Rotor 4 radially provided with a plurality of knife edges 3 on the periphery is forcedly rotated in the arrow direction, and while being wound round rotor 4 glass fiber bundle 1 is chopped between freely rotatable roller 2 and each edge 3 by being pressed by roller 2. In this method rotor 4 is rotated at a peripheral speed of 5W300, preferably 50W150m/min, and bundle 1 is fed by 200W50,000, preferably 500W20,000 texes in total. Bundle 1 of 200W50,000 texes may be divided into a plurality of bundles of 200W10,000 texes each and fed to further enhance the chopping work efficiency.
